On the day of the Home Energy Assessment, an expert technician will walk through your home looking for areas in which it is losing or wasting energy. After the technician has gathered data from the walk-through, a customized report is developed and provided to you. After you receive the report, you decide what to fix and when.

 

Your no-cost assessment may include:

  • A Wi-Fi smart thermostat*
  • A diagnostic test to identify where air may be escaping your home
  • High-efficiency showerheads**
  • Kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators**
  • Hot water pipe wrap**

*Some restrictions may apply. Primary heating system must be natural gas and provided by an Efficiency United participating gas utility. Home must have a compatible HVAC system and have working Wi-Fi. Offer subject to change without notice.

**Water heater fuel type must match utility type.

 

Income-qualified homeowners and renters may be eligible for additional benefits, like a furnace/boiler, insulation or water heating at low or no cost. Please see income guidelines below for household size. When scheduling an HEA, please select household income.

*Efficiency United Energy Efficiency Assistance Program participants must be Efficiency United residential customers and meet the household income levels established (currently 250 percent of poverty level), which is based on the Michigan Public Act 229 of 2023. Renters must have expressed consent from property owner to qualify for upgrades.

  • Appointments require one person over the age of 18 to be present at the time of service.
  • Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are contingent upon available program funding.
  • Renters require landlord approval.
  • Lifetime limit of one Home Energy Assessment per address.
