As an electric customer of a participating Efficiency United energy provider, you are eligible for free appliance recycling. By recycling old, working appliances, you can earn rebates, reduce energy use and dispose of your equipment safely and responsibly. Schedule now to receive:
- $50 rebate for full-size refrigerators and freezers
- $20 rebate for dehumidifiers and room air conditioners*
- $15 rebate for mini refrigerators and compact freezers*
*To schedule a pickup of a small appliance, you must also recycle a full-size refrigerator or freezer.

How It Works/How to Earn Your Rebate
- We’ll pick up and recycle your old, working appliance either from one of the outside designated locations (garage, porches or outbuilding) or from inside your home (appliances located in basements will not be eligible for pick-up).
- Get $50 in the mail for recycling a working refrigerator or freezer, plus no-cost pickup and disposal.
- Receive an additional $20 when you recycle your working dehumidifier or room air conditioner and $15 for a mini refrigerator or compact freezer at the same time.
Recycling your old appliances helps to:
- Reduce energy consumption
- Lower emissions of ozone-depleting substances and greenhouse gases
- Prevent releases of PCBs (toxic chemicals), mercury and used oil into the environment
- Reduce the need for new raw materials such as steel, aluminum, copper, glass, and plastic

- Must have an active residential electric account with a participating Efficiency United energy partner. Your appliance(s) will be picked up at no charge from the address listed on your billing account.
- Eligible appliances:
- Refrigerators (10 –30 cubic feet)
- Freezers (10 – 30 cubic feet)
- Room air conditioners
- Dehumidifiers
- Compact refrigerators (less than 10 cubic feet)
- Compact freezers (less than 10 cubic feet)
- Appliance(s) must be in working condition and plugged in at the time of pickup.
- Appliance must be located on the ground level of the home or outdoors (appliances located in basements will not be eligible for pickup).
- Limit of two large appliances (refrigerators and/or freezers) and four small appliances (room air conditioners, dehumidifiers, compact refrigerators and compact freezers) per year.
- Pickup of small appliances MUST coincide with the pickup of a large appliance.
- Refrigerators and freezers must be empty, defrosted and clean.
- Water supply to appliances must be disconnected in advance of the scheduled pickup.
- Room air conditioners must be removed from windows prior to the scheduled pickup.
- Appliances must be clearly and safely accessible.
- Safe removal of the appliance(s) must occur without modifications to the home.
- Someone over the age of 18 must be present at time of collection, unless otherwise arranged in advance.
- Authorized signature is required to authorize the removal of the appliance(s) to be recycled.
- Your rebate check will be mailed to you within four weeks after pickup of appliance(s).
